Aberdeen Cyrenians is very pleased to announce that our Violence Against Women Project has been awarded a grant of £401,916 over a 5-year period from the Big Lottery Fund. The grant will make a significant difference to women affected by gender-based abuse in Aberdeen and the surrounding area.
The Violence Against Women Project (VAW) was launched in 2006 and provides specialist support to women who have experienced issues including domestic abuse, family abuse, sexual exploitation, rape, sexual assault and childhood or historic abuse.
While 13 women received one-to-one support in year 1, numbers have steadily grown, with 67 women accessing ongoing VAW support during 2016.
Fiona Whitehouse, Project Manager said: “We are delighted to receive continued funding from the Big Lottery Fund for a further 5-year period. Since 2006, this service has been supporting women who are experiencing varying forms of gender-based abuse, providing the emotional, practical and advocacy support needed to help women to address violence and abuse. This Big Lottery Fund grant will ensure that the Violence Against Women project can continue its work, providing much needed support to women in the local area.”
