Shoppers on Union Street on Thursday morning may have caught a first glimpse of the mascot as he made his way from Gordon & Watson to pick up his #TeamCyrenians t-shirt at his new Summer Street home.

Gordon & Watson, part of the Dignity Caring Funeral Services group, began their support of Aberdeen Cyrenians by sponsoring the #TeamCyrenians tshirts used by those raising money for the charity at this year’s Baker Hughes 10k and Kiltwalk.

Gordon & Watson Business Manager Annette MacDonald said: "We began our backing of Aberdeen Cyrenians in May and have enjoyed sharing in the achievements of the staff, volunteers and fundraisers throughout the summer. We were delighted to be able to add the mascot to our support and look forward to reading all about the new mascot’s many adventures."

Aberdeen Cyrenians fundraiser Lois Murphy said: “Gordon & Watson’s sponsorship has played an important role in both helping raise the profile of the charity and allowing us to recognise the efforts of our fundraisers and volunteers. With our busy Harvest and Christmas campaigns coming up, we’re certain the mascot will prove a big hit at schools, community groups and events throughout the city and shire.”

Aberdeen Cyrenians chief executive Susan Montgomerie added: “Aberdeen Cyrenians relies on the support of local people, groups and businesses to help us help those in need in our community. Gordon & Watson’s continued backing of our fundraising and volunteering teams plays a key role in developing and rewarding that support and therefore in our ability to deliver our crucial services.

“With our 50th anniversary just around the corner and a range of events planned to celebrate that milestone during 2018, I’m sure the new mascot will quickly become a recognisable character and symbol of the work we do.”
