Go To First Aid Training, based in Aberdeen, is supporting the Scottish Government’s Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Strategy by offering free Basic Life Support (BLS) training sessions to local school pupils throughout 2025.
BLS training includes essential emergency response skills such as CPR, the recovery position, and how to assist someone who is choking. Countries that incorporate CPR into their school curriculum see survival rates from cardiac arrest that are two to three times higher than in those that do not.
Despite this, research by the Resuscitation Council UK shows that only one in four school-aged children in the UK currently receive any form of lifesaving training.
Go To First Aid Training strongly supports the strategy’s vision to equip all young people in Scotland with these vital skills.
Donald Todd, co-director of Go To First Aid Training, said: “Teaching BLS in schools is more than a public health measure—it’s an investment in the next generation's ability to care for each other. Our initiative helps bridge the gap between policy and practice.”
To support the government’s goals, the company is offering a free BLS training session to a class of pupils in Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire for every Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce member who books a First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work course for 8–12 people during 2025.
Dr. Kate Goodhand, co-director, added: “We’re proud to contribute to this important mission and encourage local businesses to get involved.”
