Aberdeen based Rubislaw Furniture Solutions has launched its Friends In Need Project, a community reuse programme to help those less fortunate.

The proposition is simple, when you buy a new sofa or armchair, the old one may still have years of life left in it.

A commonly cited estimate is that the UK discards around 67,0000 tonnes of furniture every year equivalent to roughly 22 million pieces of furniture annually. Much of this material is sent to landfill, despite a significant proportion being reusable.

Rather than send to landfill we work with several trusted charity partners to help this pre loved furniture reach those who desperately need support furnishing their homes.

James Cummings CEO of RFS: "Sadly many people have to start a new life from scratch, almost always caused by circumstances outwith their control.

"This often leads to having to move accommodation suddenly, and furniture is something they often desperately need help with.

"Through our large network of customers we can re purpose their pre loved sofas and armchairs when they renew, and through our charity partners can get them to those most in need.

"We will have have a couple of exciting announcements to make in the coming weeks about some charity collaborations'

If you wish to know more about the scheme from a charity perspective please contact RFS directly, or indeed if you have some high quality pre loved furniture that may benefit those in need then contact RFS directly.
