Aberdeen’s new half marathon has added a further 1,000 places after the inaugural event sold out within days, taking total capacity to 3,000 runners.
The 13.1-mile race, which takes place on Saturday July 18, will start and finish at Duthie Park before taking runners along Riverside Drive, the Bridge of Dee, South Deeside Road and the Deeside Way.
Organisers say the additional entries will be offered to those already on the waiting list, with emails now being issued to participants after demand exceeded expectations.
The event is being billed as “Europe’s coolest summer half marathon”, with organisers hoping Aberdeen’s cooler temperatures and flat tarmac route will help runners achieve fast times and personal bests.
Steve Gray, founder of Aberdeen Marathon Company, said: “Aberdeen has all the ingredients to deliver a truly stand-out running event in July – a compact city, a stunning coastline, plenty of accommodation and, crucially, cooler summer temperatures that create ideal racing conditions.”
The new event will pave the way for a full Aberdeen marathon in 2027, with organisers exploring routes that could incorporate landmarks including Union Street, Marischal College and King’s College.
