The Managing Director of Integrity HSE, an Aberdeen based consultancy, has been named by Safety & Health Practitioner (SHP) as Britain’s most influential HSE professional. Steven Harris received the accolade earlier this week, having beaten off competition from 25 other leading HSE professionals.
SHP is widely recognised as the number one source for the United Kingdom’s (UK) health and safety news, opinions, and stories. It aims to meet all the content needs of a health and safety professional, with breaking news, in-depth features, in-court stories, legislation updates, and the latest products.
This year’s coveted award was made to Steven in tribute and honour of Mavis Nye, who won the award herself in 2021 for her campaigning around asbestos awareness. Mavis tragically passed away in November 2023, following her own diagnosis of mesothelioma, an asbestos related terminal Cancer.
The 2023 SHP list of 26 nominees for the award celebrated professionals from all industries who have been inspiring, engaging and driving change in occupational health & safety in the UK over the past year, and was compiled from public nominations, in collaboration with the SHP Awards judging panel.
The award was made to Steven in recognition of his company’s work in the fields of safety, risk, and mental health, as well as his own voluntary work with the likes of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM) and Robert Gordon University. Special mention was also made of his first book, The Little Book of Leadership (published in March 2023), all profits of which go to charity.
Steven told us, “Winning this award is a career highlight for me, and a testament to my colleagues and mentors. To be acknowledged across the UK industrial landscape by my peers is incredibly humbling. It is also deserved recognition of the great work we are doing at Integrity HSE to positively influence every sector and make the working world a safer, healthier, and more sustainable place for everyone”.
