Aberdeen Lifeboat was paged at 11.15pm on Friday, November 17 to assist a fishing vessel some 9 miles North-east of Aberdeen.

Arriving on scene, RNLB ‘Bon Accord’ found the 16m-long ‘Radiant’ disabled, her main engine having failed. With 25 knots of wind producing 2-3 metre seas, a tow was passed to the casualty and a slow towing operation back to Aberdeen began.

‘Radiant’ was brought alongside to a berth in Aberdeen and the lifeboat returned to its station at 4.15am on Saturday morning.

Michael Cowlam, coxswain of the Aberdeen lifeboat on this service, says: ‘Aberdeen’s Severn class lifeboat is ideally suited to this kind of rescue. Her weight and power mean she is well equipped to tow vessels of this size.”
