Aberdeen micro-brewery teams up with Scottish social business to provide hot meals for homeless this Christmas

Aberdeen’s only micro-brewery has raised funds to feed forty mouths this Christmas after donating a sum of money to a Scottish social business.

Fierce Beer, which was established in May 2016 and has brewed over 54,000 liters of beer, has donated £200 worth of meals for the homeless in Aberdeen this Christmas.

The craft beer company, set up its much-anticipated bottle shop takeover at BrewDog’s Castlegate venue on Thursday December 15 for a few hours, and announced that all profits from its merchandise sales would be donated to social business, Social Bite.

Dave Grant, managing director of Fierce Beer said: “It’s important, at this time of year, to be kind to one another, and after all the incredible support we’ve received over the past few months, we thought this was the perfect opportunity for us to give back at this special time of year.

“The support local campaign which was launched in Aberdeen a few months ago, should not only mean we actively go out to support local business’, but we believe it should be supporting local people and the community too. As a result of raising £200 on the evening, this has allowed us to be able to donate 40 meals to individuals in Aberdeen who are homeless this Christmas.

“With one in four of Social Bite’s staff formerly homeless, and 100% of the business’ profits going to charity we felt it was the right cause to give back to and are humbled to have been able to give a little something back to the local community this festive period.”

Social Bite feeds approximately 150 homeless people in Scotland everyday and currently boasts five shops across Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh. The social business also offers a suspended coffee and food service, which allows customers to pay for a coffee or any item of food from their menu so that a homeless person can go into the shop and claim it.

Fierce beer, which employs four people, is located in Dyce, Aberdeen and offers core range of 10 beers, with numerous limited edition brews available. Its beer is now available in craft beer shops across the UK, as well as all nine Scottish Oddbins shops.
