In a step towards enhancing the well-being of our four-legged companions, Iska Birnie, an award-winning photographer from Aberdeenshire, has embraced a unique opportunity to be part of groundbreaking research. This research initiative, led by Leeds University in collaboration with an innovative app developer, aims to revolutionise pet care.

Iska, locally known for her work in commercial, dog & equine, and wedding photography, is now lending her talents to a venture that could change the lives of countless dogs. This project is all about movement analysis in dogs. By analysing the movements of our furry friends, the project seeks to predict and prevent potential mobility issues that may arise in their later years.

The primary goal of this research is to create a life-changing tool that will be able to spot mobility issues in dogs from a video. The app will support the early diagnosis of mobility issues, stop dogs suffering sooner and advise on preventive treatment.

At this stage of the research, Iska, alongside many other photographers and videographers throughout the UK, is partnering with University veterinarians, joining the collective effort to collect video footage of dogs of all breeds, ages, and sizes. The more diverse the dogs, the more accurate the results will be. It's a call to action for the entire Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire dog community to come together and contribute to this worthy cause.

Participating is easy and requires only a few basic details about your furry companion: their name, age, breed, and approximate weight. Additionally, Iska will take four 10-second videos of your dog. Your involvement could be the key to a future where dogs lead healthier, happier lives.

Iska's passion for this project is evident, and she is delighted to be part of something that will undoubtedly have a lasting and positive impact on the lives of dogs. And that’s where you and your furry friend can play a significant role. If you're eager to contribute and have your dog be a part of this groundbreaking research, reach out to Iska Birnie.

As a token of her appreciation to the dogs of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire participating in this initiative, Iska is offering a chance for one lucky dog and their owner to win a bespoke dog photography session with her – the best way of creating forever lasting memories.
