A passionate student photographer has been recognised in a nationwide competition celebrating Scotland’s abundance of wildlife and natural environment.
Mark Deans, 38, from Kingswells, Aberdeen, who is currently studying photography at Gray’s School of Art, took part in the photography launched by premium housebuilder David Wilson Homes. The campaign was designed to inspire local residents to pause and appreciate the natural beauty around them, while celebrating the diverse wildlife and nature that share their community.
Mark’s simple, yet beautiful image of a Mallard duck was captured at Walker Dam while he was out for a walk. After leaving his offshore job in oil and gas to pursue has passion for photography, Mark now spends his time seeking out opportunities to capture colourful imagery of wildlife inside Aberdeen city centre.
Mark’s image was one of three winning entries selected from submissions received from across Scotland. Judges commended its simplicity and authenticity in capturing the country’s wildlife in their natural habitats.
Mark Deans said: "I have always had a passion for photography, and I recently made the decision to pursue it as a career. In Scotland, we expect to see wildlife along our coasts and in our countryside, but there is so much nature around us even in bustling city centres.
“This photograph is a testament to the diversity and beauty that surround us throughout Scotland. Walker Dam is a great place to see birds, ducks and other wildlife, but no matter where you are, if you take a moment to pause and look at your surroundings, you’ll be amazed by what you discover.”
David Palmer, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes North Scotland: “Over the last few weeks, we’ve been overwhelmed by the quality of entries showcasing Scotland’s natural beauty. From Fife’s woodlands to the Highlands and the West Coast, photographers have demonstrated a deep appreciation for the wildlife that shares our communities.
“Our warmest congratulations go to Mark. His photograph captures exactly what this campaign is all about - taking a moment to pause, connect with nature and celebrate the places we call home.”
As one of the winners, Mark will have his photography displayed on the David Wilson Homes’ website, and in future marketing collateral.
