Aberdeen is set to sparkle this festive season as Christmas celebrations return to the city after the CV19 pandemic forced cancellations last year.
Residents and visitors will be pleased to see traditional favourites return to the festive events line-up:
- Christmas Tree Switch On – Thursday, November 18
- 12 Days of Christmas Sculpture Trail – Wednesday, December 1 - Friday, December 24
- Nativity Scene – Monday, November 19 - Wednesday, January 5 (Blessing Event: 29 November)
- Carol Concert – Saturday, December 18
- Hogmanay – Friday, December 31
To complement the main programme of events, spectacular festive lighting installations will once again help to add some Christmas sparkle to the city centre including the giant light up Santa and present arch returning in new locations in addition to numerous Christmas trees and light installations in city centre spaces such as The Green and Correction Wynd.
Aberdeen City Council leader Councillor Jenny Laing said: “The ‘Christmas in Aberdeen’ festivities is shaping up to be a truly magical time of year, with an outstanding events line-up returning to the city to provide some much-needed cheer and celebration during the CV19 pandemic.
“Through our City Centre Masterplan Aberdeen City Council is committed to making Aberdeen an even more vibrant place to live, work and visit – and ‘Christmas in Aberdeen’ has something for everyone, but importantly encourages people back into the city centre to boost the leisure and business economies.
“Our officers and partners are working hard to ensure that both residents and visitors to the city can enjoy our spectacular offering in a safe environment and we look forward to all the celebrations that ‘Christmas in Aberdeen’ will offer.”
Plans have also been submitted for the Aberdeen Christmas Village, which if approved would be situated in the civic space on Broad Street and run from Thursday, November 18 - Friday, December 31.
