Aberdeen video production company Signal are celebrating their best financial year since they formed in 2011 and are on track for an even better 2024, with several exciting projects already completed and many more in the pipeline.

They’re proud to have been recognised for the second year running with an SME News’ Scottish Enterprise Award, and won Corporate LiveWire’s Global Award for Video Production Company of the Year 2024, adding to a long list of international awards.

One of their first jobs of the year was filming for First Bus, promoting their role as Official Transport Partner to Aberdeen FC. This involved filming around Aberdeen on a bus, with eight actors, club mascot Angus the Bull, and a surprise cameo by AFC’s star striker Leighton Clarkson.

Then there was the completion of ‘Building the Future’, a mini-documentary five years in the making, about Port of Aberdeen’s £420m expansion at South Harbour. After a cinema premiere of the film for their staff, it’s finally available for the public to watch, Their long-standing partnership continues, including preparations for the 2025 Tall Ships race which will return to Aberdeen after 28 years., Signal is the only Official Media Partner for the event.

Signal also cemented their relationship with Paisley-based agency We Are Brass Tacks by completing a second series of HSE dramas for national waste management company Biffa. ‘Season one’ was filmed in Leicester, and ‘season two’ switched to several Biffa locations across Birmingham.

Meanwhile, production continued on a series of films for drilling company Noble, in Houston, Texas. These films showcase the new Noble Operational Risk Management Support Centre which uses remote technology to monitor offshore installations, and rapidly share best practice, improving safety across their rigs worldwide.

Closer to home, Signal made a film for Eyemouth Harbour Trust, a small harbour with big plans, to expand the harbour to meet demand for port services supporting offshore wind energy. The film will raise awareness of these plans with the local community, and potential partners.

The Renewables sector has generated a flurry of connected projects for Signal, including supporting the launch of ORE Catapult’s Floating Offshore Wind Innovation Centre, opened by former First Minister Humza Yusaf; a bespoke website and a series of video case studies for the New Energy Skills Academy (NESA) targeted at people considering careers in Renewables; and, for the Energy Transition Zone (ETZ), videos designed to attract more people to Renewables careers.

Signal are always keen to support opportunities in the region and have just completed a project for VisitAberdeenshire, which was won following a competitive tender. They produced five new films to promote each of their core services, illustrating a ‘day in the life’ of members in each team, who also starred in, and narrated them.

Signal have begun filming the demolition of an Aberdeen icon, at Shell’s former Tullos HQ. The site will be repurposed for future regeneration. Signal has already installed solar powered timelapse cameras and will be filming progress with cameras and drones for the next year.

For the second year running, Signal are covering the 2024 Staysure PGA Seniors championship, at Trump International Golf Links. This event features pro golfers, celebrities, and hundreds of golf fans. Signal will be there wit multiple camera crews and will be delivering short teaser films, during the tournament for online audiences as well as Sky Sports.
