Aberdeen bar and restaurant Revolucion de Cuba has closed with immediate effect after its owner, Revel Collective, filed for administration.

The venue at The Academy is among a number of sites shut as part of the process, while Revolution on Belmont Street has been spared.

Revel Collective, which owns several hospitality brands, confirmed that multiple venues were excluded from a sale to Neos Hospitality, placing hundreds of jobs at risk.

A statement said: “Regrettably 14 Revolution, six Revolucion de Cuba and one Peach site did not form part of the transaction and those sites are being closed with immediate effect impacting 591 employees.”

Administrators added: “Immediately on appointment, the Administrators completed two sale transactions for the business and assets of the Group: (i) a sale of Revolution, Revolucion de Cuba and Founders & Co to Neos Holdco Limited and certain of its subsidiaries, trading as Neos Hospitality and (ii) a sale of Peach pubs to Coral Pub Company Acquisition Limited, founded by Ted Kennedy.”

They said the deal would protect jobs elsewhere, adding: “The transactions secure the continuation of 20 Revolution, Revolucion de Cuba and Founders & Co bars and 21 Peach pubs and protect 1,582 jobs across the sites and central support function.”

Revel Collective said it had been put up for sale due to “challenging economic conditions”, following a restructuring programme in 2024 that saw a number of unprofitable venues close.
