For the second time since north-east operator The McGinty’s Group took over, The Silver Darling in Aberdeen has won the prestigious title of “Restaurant of the Year (Casual Dining)” at the Scottish Licenced Trade News (SLTN) Awards.

The SLTN Awards took place last week and were hosted by celebrity David Walliams who had previously dined at The Silver Darling just a couple of weeks prior to the celebration. The awards recognise and reward the best in Scottish hospitality and tourism.

This isn’t the first time Aberdeen’s biggest hospitality group has been honoured with an award from the well-respected industry event as The McGinty’s Group was awarded The Best Multi-Venue Operator at last year’s ceremony. The Silver Darling also won the same category in 2018 and the group’s west end restaurant in Aberdeen, No.10 Bar and Restaurant, took home the title of Restaurant of the Year award in 2017.

The McGinty’s Group was first launched in 2009 with the group’s first pub, McGinty’s Meal An’ Ale on Union Street in the Granite City and has witnessed significant growth increasing their portfolio to 10 venues.

These include The Silver Darling, No.10 Bar and Restaurant, The Esslemont, Mac’s Pizzeria, Under The Hammer, The Grill, The Stag, Ferryhill House Hotel, McGinty’s Meal An’ Ale and The Fourmile. They will also be the operator of the new Aberdeen Market Development which is expected to open in 2025.

Director of The McGinty’s Group, Allan Henderson, said: “It’s an incredible achievement not just for The Silver Darling but for the city as whole. The SLTN Awards is one of the most prestigious events in Scotland and to be recognised as the best in the country is a fantastic achievement. The fact that The Silver Darling has managed to win the award for the second time in just five years shows how consistently great the restaurant is.”

“It’s been a tough couple of years for the industry and while it continues to be very challenging, it’s great to be recognised for all the hard work that goes into running a hospitality business in the current environment. Hopefully accolades like this showcase how fantastic Aberdeen’s hospitality scene is and we are very excited for months ahead.”

SLTN Digital Editor Gordon Davidson added: “With its stunning panoramic floor to ceiling windows and amazing view of the Aberdeen coastline, The Silver Darling really sets the scene for an incredible dining experience - and does not disappoint. Our judging team found the presentation and quality of The Silver Darling’s food to be excellent across the board.”
