The ACVO TSI communications team is delighted to share the final 2025 edition of ACVO News. The publication is a free digital magazine showcasing the work, achievements and opportunities from Aberdeen’s third sector.

ACVO News is a key platform in promoting the vibrant work of third sector organisations in the city, providing the latest funding opportunities, volunteering roles, events and vacancies and sharing the latest insights from the ACVO team.

In the December edition, ACVO showcases an inspiring feature from the man behind Miles of Smiles, Marius Coste. The Aberdeen father, runner and fundraiser embarks on his latest challenge raising money for SAMH and Clan Cancer Support.

Read the candid interview where Marius shares his personal story behind Miles of Smiles and how the people of Aberdeen keep him motivated to run a total of 7,000 kilometres in full costume by December 2026.

ACVO is also pleased to share important news around the Just Transition PB public vote. Those who work, live or access services in Aberdeen can have their say and choose their top five eco-friendly projects to help them receive up to £50,000. Readers can cast their vote at jtpbfund.scot by 5pm on Monday 8th December.

Also in this edition, ACVO is honoured to share that local charities Aberdeen Independent MS, Grampian Hospital Radio and The Russell Anderson Foundation have been awarded the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service. Often described as the ‘MBE for volunteer organisations’, the award highlights the exceptional impact volunteers make within their communities.

This recognition comes at a moment where ACVO reflects on another year of dedication across the sector.

Maggie Hepburn, ACVO chief executive, says: “As we move into December and prepare for the year ahead, I want to thank all our members, partners and colleagues for their continued commitment throughout 2025.

“The strength of Aberdeen’s third sector lies in its ability to work collectively, share insight and support one another, and I look forward to building on that further in 2026.”

Other third sector updates this month include:

  • Home-Start Aberdeen cut the ribbon and officially open their brand new charity shop premises on 93-99 George Street, Aberdeen.
  • James Welsh, Aberdeen Arts Centre hospitality manager, to raise funds with ‘Dame-a-thon’ pantomime challenge on Saturday 13th December.
  • Other festive news includes Befriend a Child’s Giving Tree Appeal, Aberdeen Foyer’s Christmas Campaign, TechFest’s 24 Days of STEM – Advent Calendar online initiative and Clan’s Christmas Tree collections service.

Third sector organisations, charities and community groups are welcome to contact ACVO to share their stories or if they wish to have a feature article highlighting the work they do in Aberdeen. Having your story included is a great way to promote local projects, celebrate achievements and raise awareness of valuable work to Aberdeen’s communities.
