Aberdeenshire Cricket Club’s girls and ladies’ team Northern Lights has showcased their brand-new kit, following a donation from Aberdeen-based housebuilder Cala Homes North.
The support from Cala is part of a three-year sponsorship deal with the club, which is based on Morningside Road in Aberdeen.
The funding has helped the club to purchase the new kit, as well as help to support the growth of the girls and ladies’ divisions in the sport across the North East.
Bob Buchan, Junior Convener at Aberdeenshire Cricket Club, said: “We are hugely grateful to Cala for all the support they have given us since our launch last year. This sponsorship has not only enabled us to purchase new kits for the teams but helped us to successfully run the girls and ladies’ division across the region.
“Women’s cricket is the fastest growing area of the game, not only in Scotland, but across the world. We are very proud to have established girls and ladies’ teams in Aberdeenshire, helping to encourage more locals to take up the sport.
“As the team represents the whole of the North East of Scotland, we spent a lot of time developing a new design and logo for the kit that gives the players their own unique identity. The players are extremely committed which is why we want them to feel like they have some ownership of the team.”
Fraser Carr, Sales and Marketing Director at Cala Homes (North) said: “We’re proud to have supported the establishment of the girls and ladies’ teams and watch them make excellent progress since they began training in March. The North East is a fantastic place to live with lots of great local amenities and clubs for locals and this has been a great addition.
“The new kits really make them look the part as a team and we look forward to cheering them on at their upcoming games.”
The team’s new kit will be shown for the first time at an away match against Grange on 22nd May, and at home to Watsonian on 29th May.
