Aberdeenshire food business By Loaf & Ladle is encouraging people to put their phones down and rediscover the simple pleasure of receiving something thoughtful through the post with the launch of A Letter from the Kitchen, a monthly snail mail subscription.
Designed to offer a welcome break from the constant pull of screens, notifications and scrolling, the subscription brings together a collection of small screen-free moments to help people slow down, switch off and spend a little time doing something just for themselves.
Each monthly letter includes a recipe card to keep and collect, a themed puzzle, a unique tea blend and a personalised letter. From indulgent sticky toffee to warming masala chai, the teas offer something a little different from your everyday cup.
Whether it's settling down with a cup of tea, tackling a seasonal crossword or trying a new recipe, each letter is designed to create a little pocket of screen-free time.
The idea grew from founder Clare's own experience of spending more time on her phone, and the enjoyment she has found in doing something creative away from a screen.
“Like most people, I've noticed my screen time creeping up over the past few years. One of the things I've loved most about starting By Loaf & Ladle is the time I spend baking. It's a chance to step away from my phone, get hands-on and make something tangible, and I find real joy in that.
“I wanted to find a way to share that feeling with other people, without it needing to be a big commitment. A Letter from the Kitchen is about giving people an easy way to slow down, enjoy something away from their screens and have a little treat to look forward to through the letterbox each month.”
