Two Aberdeenshire MPs have been handed senior roles in Kemi Badenoch’s shadow cabinet reshuffle, with Andrew Bowie moving to the energy brief and Harriet Cross becoming shadow Scotland secretary.

Mr Bowie, MP for West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine, has been appointed shadow energy secretary, replacing Claire Coutinho, after previously serving as shadow Scotland secretary.

He is succeeded in the Scotland role by Gordon and Buchan MP Harriet Cross, putting two North-east representatives in prominent positions on the Conservative frontbench.

The changes form part of a wider shake-up ahead of Parliament’s return today and the Conservative Party conference in October, with Andrew Griffith appointed shadow chancellor and Tom Tugendhat becoming shadow foreign secretary.

Mr Griffith is said to have been appointed because of his impressive financial and business background. He is a former Sky executive and chairman of Just Eat.
