Lathallan School pupil Andrew Fasanya, 15, has been selected for the Scotland Men’s U16s squad.

Fasanya will travel to Cyprus later this month to represent his country in an international friendly triple-header, where the young Scots will face off against hosts Cyprus, Romania, and Wales.

Andrew’s journey to the international stage has been defined by his power on the pitch and rapid progression. Having first laced up his boots at the age of 10, he was quickly scouted and has spent the last five years developing his talent within the youth system at Aberdeen Football Club. His selection for the national team marks a significant milestone in his promising career and reflects his status as one of the region's most exciting young prospects.

When hearing the news of his selection for the Scotland team, Andrew, said: “I didn’t really believe it. I didn’t think I would make it to this point. So, being selected for the U16s for Scotland was a huge thing for me.”

“I’m really nervous and excited at the same time. I am just hoping to leave a good impression and show what I can do.”

“My dream is to get to the highest level of football that I can. For people to know where I started and how I developed to be one of the top players from Scotland and Nigeria. And, if I do achieve this, it’ll be huge not just for me but for everyone who has supported me.”

Lathallan School Headmaster, Mr Richard Toley, commented: "Huge congratulations to Andrew on his selection for the Scotland Men’s U16s. This is a well-deserved opportunity for the hours of training and passion he pours into his sport. We are proud to have him representing both his country and our school."

At Lathallan Senior School, over 20% of students have represented or are currently representing their country or region. At Lathallan, a red cap is earned by representing one's country in sport, symbolising an athlete’s honour and experience.

At the school’s recent sports awards, Andrew was awarded his first red cap and recognised as the third-place finalist for the Lathallan Sports Personality of the Year. The top honour was awarded to Team GB hill runner Hania (S6), with freestyle skier Callum (S5) taking second place.

The Lathallan School Sports Personality of the Year awards ceremony served as a celebration of the school's sporting pedigree, featuring an inspiring keynote address from VIP guest and former Team GB Rugby Sevens Captain, Kaleem Barreto. The event also welcomed back Old Lathallians and professional athletes, swimmer Dean Fearn and cyclist Arabella Blackburn, who returned to campus to share their recent successes and display their medals to current pupils. Both Arabella and Dean finished their sixth year at Lathallan in 2025 having already become world champions in their individual sports and now have their sights set on selection for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
