Almost 1,000 homes and businesses across several new areas of Aberdeenshire are set to get access to lightning-fast full fibre broadband for the first time, as Scottish independent broadband builder and provider GoFibre’s network build continues.
Build is underway in St Fergus, Inchmarlo, Kincardine O’Neil, Collieston and Newburgh in Aberdeenshire and in the Aberdeen suburb and village of Kingswells.
Residents in these areas will be able to enjoy fast, reliable connectivity with speeds of up to 1Gbps available on GoFibre’s network. This enables smoother service delivery for businesses, seamless home working, video calls without freezing, and rapid downloads.
GoFibre is Scotland’s fastest-growing broadband provider and its North-east Scotland build is being delivered in seven local authority areas – Highland, Moray, Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen City, Angus, Perth and Kinross and Dundee.
It’s part of a major government contract to improve connectivity in underserved areas. In 2025, GoFibre was chosen as the supplier to deliver full-fibre broadband to around 63,000 hard-to-reach premises across North East Scotland as part of joint efforts by the UK and Scottish Governments to supercharge internet access in mainly rural areas.
Project Gigabit is the UK Government’s programme to enable hard-to-reach communities to access lightning-fast, gigabit-capable broadband.
The Scottish Government is playing a key role in delivering Project Gigabit in Scotland by managing the delivery of the contracts.
In addition to the 63,000 premises being delivered during the Project Gigabit contract, GoFibre will be adding additional premises to the build on a commercial basis, meaning at least 100,000 premises across the North East will be added to its full-fibre network.

As well as improving digital connectivity in rural and underserved areas in North East Scotland, GoFibre has also supported and worked with local performing arts groups, sports clubs and community events to create lasting impact. Recent sponsorship initiatives have included supporting Aberdeenshire-based dance school Rhythm Nation Dance’s summer shows, providing financial support to Stonehaven Folk Festival, and sponsoring the St Cyrus 10k, Portlethen Bowling Club and Portlethen Juniors FC.
