Absafe, the respected non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting safety and well-being, has been granted £1500 from United Way to help deliver an innovative programme aimed at addressing knife crime. The "No Knives, Better Lives," initiative aims to educate young individuals about the risks associated with carrying knives and the legal consequences thereof.

Knife crime remains a pressing concern in communities across the UK, prompting Absafe to take proactive measures to raise awareness and encourage safer choices among young people. With the support of United Way, the organisation undertook the "No Knives, Better Lives" training workshop facilitated by Youthlink Scotland.

The "No Knives, Better Lives" initiative will encompass engaging and informative sessions delivered to local primary aged children. These sessions will offer young people valuable insights into the real-world repercussions of knife crime and anti-social behaviour, underscoring the potential harm it can inflict on individuals and communities alike. The objective is not solely to discourage knife carrying but also to promote responsible decision-making among young people.

In addition to these sessions, Absafe intends to provide resources to teachers and parents, ensuring that the "No Knives, Better Lives" message resonates within both the classroom and the home environment. These resources will empower educators and parents with the knowledge and tools required to address the issue of knife crime effectively.

The CEO of Absafe, Louise, expressed her gratitude for the funding from United Way, stating, "We are genuinely appreciative of the support provided by United Way, which enables us to launch this crucial initiative. Knife crime has a profound impact not only on individuals but also on entire communities. By educating young people about the associated risks and consequences, we hope to foster a safer environment for everyone. We will also be keeping an eye out for other funding sources to move the project forward over the next 12 months."

The "No Knives, Better Lives" initiative underscores Absafe's unwavering commitment to creating safer communities and empowering young people with the information and skills needed to make responsible choices. Through this initiative, the organisation aims to make a meaningful impact in reducing knife crime and its detrimental effects on individuals and society.

Absafe eagerly anticipates collaborating with local primary schools, teachers, parents, and United Way to deliver this vital programme. Together, they are working towards a safer future for the community, where young people are informed, aware, and equipped to make positive choices that contribute to a safer and more secure society.
