‘Growing
our workforce for our city’ will be the focus of a two-day employability
conference hosted by Aberdeen City Council later this month.
ABZWorks,
the council’s Employability Service, has organised the conference aimed at all
employers and employability providers in the city.
Council
Co-Leader, Councillor Christian Allard, said: “Aberdeen City Council is
committed to supporting people living in the city now and in the future to
access employment or progress into a better paid job as this can be a way out
of poverty for many people.
“The
‘Growing our Workforce for our City’ conference offers employability providers
and city employers the opportunity to share their experiences and concerns and
hear first-hand from a range of experts. This will help them to plan ahead to
ensure the city’s workforce will have the opportunity to access the essential
education and training to give them the knowledge and skills required to meet
the demand of the city’s job market in the years to come. We want
Aberdeen to be a city where individuals and families can prosper, be healthy
and be happy.”
Day 1 – Tuesday 26
March, 10am-3pm, Beach Ballroom, Aberdeen
This
is open to training providers in Aberdeen and will focus on partnership working
between providers in the city. Key themes will include No One Left Behind Phase
3; Disability Support and Tackling Child Poverty through Employability.
A
series of workshops will take place during the day, with the outputs informing
and supporting the work of the Local Employability Partnership over the coming
year.
Third,
public, and private sector training providers are invited to attend.

Day 2 – Wednesday 27 March, 10am-4pm, Beach Ballroom, Aberdeen
This is open to all employers in Aberdeen. A key focus of the morning session is to gather employer input and information about the recruitment challenges and skills gaps they are facing across industries and sectors and identify the actions which can be taken to help address these and improve employee retention. The delegates will also learn about and share experiences of breaking barriers through the promotion and understanding of inclusive recruitment.
The afternoon session will focus on the energy sector. Roundtable topics will include linking industry with education; energy, education, and employability; and skilling the city’s future workforce, and how we can collectively grow the city’s workforce through a range of activities, including the ABZ Pipeline. The outputs of the roundtable discussions will inform the Local Employability Partnership while also supporting the Regional Economic Strategy Skills Action Plan.
