Waste solution providers Acciona Industrial UK Ltd has announced its partnership with local charity Clan Cancer Support on its upcoming art installation event, ‘The Big Hop Trail’, alongside specialist waste management company, Indaver NESS Services Ltd.
Officially revealing the trail on Monday, June 26, Clan, the North-east based cancer support charity group, is inviting the public to embark on a cultural tour of the north-east and islands to view the art installations, which feature bespoke hare sculptures that have been created by talented artists from across the UK.
Spanish multinational conglomerate, Acciona, is the lead on the construction and operation of The Ness Energy project, the waste-to-energy plant located in Aberdeen’s East Tullos area, working on the project site since 2019, whilst Indaver will be utilising its expertise to operate and manage the EfW plant across an upcoming 20-year period once the project is fully operational.
Coinciding with Clan’s 40th anniversary, ‘The Big Hop Trail’ art installation will feature 40 individual sculptures, located at focal points across Aberdeen City Centre, as well as Elgin, Lerwick, Fochabers, and more. The locations across the North-east have been selected to pinpoint the geography of Clan’s reach and its support for those affected with cancer across the region.
The installation sponsored by Indaver, titled ‘Zephyr’ by artist Ewen J Milne, can be found at Don Mouth at Aberdeen’s Beach Esplanade. Acconia’s ‘The Hare of Hope’, commissioned by artist RedBetty, sponsored by Acciona is located in Victoria Park, Aberdeen.
In the role of sponsors, both Acciona and Indaver hope to help ensure that the event – which runs between the 2nd of July to the 3rd of September – is a success, encouraging the public to take part and see the social, cultural, and economic value of the trail and its intentions.
Sergio Campo, EPC Project Director, Acciona, is thrilled about Acciona’s involvement in the event, commenting: “It’s an incredible honour to be involved in such an exciting project right here in the North-east. A vital cause, the incredible support that Clan provides to those affected by cancer is well known across the region, and events like this will only raise that profile even further. By getting involved with ‘The Big Hop Trail’, we are hopeful that it will help drive audiences to take the time and explore what the North-east has to offer, appreciating the unique qualities of local cultural landmarks and hotspots.”
Indaver’s John Little, Plant & General Manager, said: like Acciona, Indaver are very pleased to be able to support Clan in this fun and creative summer activity, and it was such a pleasure to meet the artists and have worked with local schools and pupils to turn Clan’s vision into reality. We hope that by following the trail, it provides a bit of summer fun for all region residents and visitors alike.
