Active Schools engages with more than 200,000 young people in 2018/19 – promoting physical and mental well-being and social skills in partnership across Aberdeenshire

Active Schools works with schools, clubs and communities to help make sure children start active and stay active across Scotland.

Its fundamental aim is to offer all children and young people the opportunities and motivation to adopt healthy lifestyles, now and into adulthood through extra-curricular sport and physical activity opportunities.

There's a particular focus on providing opportunities for more children to be physically active, with a particular focus on those communities most at need.

In Aberdeenshire it's been a really busy year for Active Schools staff, who operate in 17 school networks across the area, bringing them closer to their local communities.

Active Schools relies on key partnerships with schools, staff, volunteers (from as little as 30 minutes a week), coaches, clubs and many other partners to make it successful.

The team has produced a video showing some of its achievements alongside local communities in the last year: http://bit.ly/AS18_19

In the video, one of the area's own swimming stars, Hannah Miley, is clear on the difference volunteers can make.

"The more people getting involved the better and the more likely we can encourage more kids to get active and be involved," said Hannah.

If you want to get involved or want more information, please speak to your local Active Schools Coordinator or email the team at activeschools@aberdeenshire.gov.uk
