With effect from July 1 2016, International legislation comes into force that is intended to combat mis-declaration of Container weights.

The implementation of the SOLAS VI Regulation 2 requiring the verification of the gross mass of packed containers, is designed to ensure the safety of lifting operations and carrying vessel’s stability.

The responsibility for provision of this information lies with the Shipper of the goods and certification of that information has to be provided to the Shipping Line that will carry them prior to their acceptance for carriage.

Operating in the Port of Aberdeen, Searoute Port Services Ltd will be able to provide the required certification subject to formal accreditation by the Maritime & Coastguard Agency.

Containers would normally be shipped via Grangemouth or Ports further South some of which are not geared to provide this service but a 15 minute diversion through Searoute’s facility would satisfy the Regulation.
