A leading Aberdeen-based group of electrical companies is celebrating 45 years in business with news of significant international growth.

For 45-year-old AEL, overseas business now accounts for almost half of revenues. A proactive approach to market exploration, and the ability to grow in step in customers’ overseas expansion, has prompted growth in locations such as the Mediterranean, Europe and Scandinavia. The uptick in the company’s international presence, has been spurred on by its links with key manufacturers and providers, such as TE (Seacon) and ABB.

The growing global customer base is supported by a team of more than 50 operating from strategically located bases in the Middle East, North America and Latin America, as well as the company’s global headquarters in Aberdeen.

In the UK, a good mix of new and repeat business has allowed AEL to increase traction in the defence and subsea sectors, as well as its traditional oil and gas market.

Commenting on the anniversary, company founder Graeme Mackie said: “Thanks to a reputation built up over four-and-a-half decades, our foothold in traditional markets remains solid but simultaneous growth in emerging sectors is fostering the sustainability that will underpin the next chapter of our corporate journey.”
