AGCC comments on Chancellor's late night announcement

In response to the Chancellor’s announcement tonight, Russell Borthwick, chief executive of Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, said:

“Tens of thousands of businesses across the UK have been trying to access the financial support which they urgently need. Government has moved quickly to announce support measures, but it is inevitable that issues will be uncovered as we all move at pace to respond to this crisis.

“It’s positive to see government take action to address some of the issues that firms across the North-east of Scotland have been raising to us directly. From directors anxious about excessive personal guarantees to concerns from mid-sized firms that they were excluded from vital support, the changes announced by the Chancellor will reassure business that government is listening.

“We’re laser-focused on ensuring that this support reaches firms on the front line without delay. The Chamber network, pulling together feedback from every nation and region in the UK, will continue to press through our national team at the British Chambers of Commerce for flexibility, pace and clarity from government as we meet this crisis head on."
