Aiken Group announces record turnover & launch of new product

Aberdeen-based Aiken Group has announced that the company turnover has rocketed to £26.1 million in the past year and has celebrated the achievement with a significant product launch at Offshore Europe.

For the 12 months to May 31, 2015 the company saw revenues grow by 110% on the previous year to £26.1 million – the highest figure ever recorded since the company was founded in 1987.

Aiken Group is a leading and innovative supplier of integrated, out-sourced and solutions-based engineering and specialist services. The company employs 80 full-time staff and has access to a pool of up to 200 contractors worldwide.

During this week’s Offshore Europe event in Aberdeen, Scottish Minister for Business, Energy & Tourism Fergus Ewing MSP unveiled the company’s latest product offering which represents a significant advancement in modular accommodation for the onshore and offshore markets.

“Room In a Box” is the creation of improved personal living space which provides a better environment with enhanced health and safety features. An automated upper bunk bed enables stewards to lower the bed and change linen and mattresses without the need to work at height significantly reducing the risk of injury and therefore LTI. In addition the bed can remain in the lower position for rig crew on back-to-back shifts, negating the need for access and egress through bunk ladders.

An improved wet unit manufactured from a durable inert material manufactured in a patented fashion ensures no water ingress whilst dramatically reducing installation and refurbishment time and associated requirements for additional personnel.

An enhanced level of finish including features such as LED lighting and hotel style bed head units with HDMI and USB connectivity to enhance the aesthetic appeal for space users.

Aiken Group Managing Director Danny Donald said: “In spite of challenging conditions, we are pleased to report this milestone turnover achievement which symbolises another step forward in our growth. Once again, we see the continued benefits of a diversified income stream and there is no doubt that Aiken Group’s success lies in the synergies which exist between our various divisions, and in the calibre of people on the team to deliver the best products and services to a growing client base.

“Room In a Box marks the beginning of the next chapter in Aiken Group’s evolution by taking industry ‘norms’ and challenging them by pushing boundaries to create a superior living space which is both harmonious with its environment and user friendly for those working in adverse conditions.”

Room In a Box was supported with innovation funding from Scottish Enterprise which has been working closely with the company over the last three years through its account management programme.

Raey Currie, account manager at Scottish Enterprise, added: “Aiken Group’s announcement today is testament to its forward thinking and ambitious leadership team which puts innovation at the heart of its business.

“As well as our innovation support, we’ve also helped the company to investigate new markets both at home and overseas. I’d like to congratulate Aiken Group on their phenomenal success and wish them continued growth as they deliver their ambitious plans.”
