Aberdeen City Council has temporarily suspended rules around airport taxi pick-up points in a bid to bolster coverage in the city during the Tall Ships and Offshore Europe.
At present, the local authority has two separate operational zones, meaning airport taxis are not allowed to pick up passengers from ranks across the city - other than in the early hours of Sunday mornings to help get revellers home safely.
But now, The Press and Journal reports, following concerns about a potential lack of taxis to ferry visitors around during two major events this year, the council has decided to temporarily relax those rules.
Agreed by the licencing committee on Wednesday, the change means that, during the Tall Ships event in July and Offshore Europe in September, airport taxis will be allowed to collect passengers from ranks throughout the city.
It comes after the Chamber revealed in March that Aberdeen City Council did not know how many of the cities taxis would be allowed into the city centre under LEZ rules.
At the time, the council said it was in talks to extend the exemption to LEZ rules for taxis and private hire cars, which had been due to expire on June 1.
