AKR Fitness recently marked its 10-year anniversary with a special celebration at its city-centre gym — beginning with a packed Saturday morning Super Circuits class, followed by an afternoon of connection and reflection with members and former staff.
Guests were treated to food from Bev’s Bistro, a custom cake by Jo Scrumptious, and live music from local guitarist Joyful. A curated visual display — shown on a giant screen provided by PCL Live / AXV Audio Visual — showcased highlights from AKR’s journey, including member milestones, past events, and behind-the-scenes moments from over the years.
“We wanted the day to reflect what AKR is really about,” said Mike MacDonald, founder of AKR Fitness. “It’s not just about workouts — it’s about community, encouragement, and helping people feel stronger, healthier, and more energised in their everyday lives.”
Since opening in 2015, AKR has grown into a trusted space for adults who want expert coaching in a welcoming, non-intimidating environment. The business began with modest resources and a clear vision — and has developed year by year through consistent reinvestment, ongoing learning, and a relentless focus on improving both the facility and the member experience.
From the outset, AKR took a different approach — offering personal training in a small-group format that was structured, supportive, and beginner-friendly. It wasn’t just about access to equipment, but about expert guidance, consistency, and helping people build fitness in a way that felt achievable and sustainable.
That wider experience has remained part of AKR’s identity ever since — from training sessions to social events and member milestones — all part of a consistent effort to make fitness a more human, energising, and sustainable part of people’s lives.
The team now supports more than 200 members through personal training, group classes, and ongoing education — all guided by the gym’s core values of Kindness, Energy, and Excellence.

As the business enters its second decade, AKR remains focused on delivering a consistently exceptional fitness experience — and helping more people in Aberdeen live better, move better, and feel better.
