AKR Fitness has recently completed a team development programme in partnership with Gary Smith of Path to Potential, as part of its ongoing commitment to professional growth and delivering a highly personalised member experience.
Every member of the AKR team completed a Mindflick Spotlight profile, followed by an individual one-to-one review with Gary. The programme concluded with an in-house team session focused on communication, collaboration, and understanding how individual strengths contribute to collective performance.
The team profile identified AKR as “empathically engaged” — reflecting a culture built on connection, awareness, and high standards of care.
“For us, this wasn’t about fixing anything,” said Mike MacDonald, founder of AKR Fitness. “It was about gaining deeper clarity on our individual strengths and how we work together as a team. When you understand your natural style — and the styles of those around you — you communicate better, collaborate better, and ultimately serve people better. That matters in a coaching environment.”
Gary Smith, founder of Path to Potential, commented: “The AKR team showed a high level of self-awareness and openness throughout the process. Being identified as ‘empathically engaged’ is a significant strength — it means connection and care come naturally. The real value comes from recognising that strength and intentionally aligning it to performance, consistency, and shared standards. That’s where teams move from good to exceptional.”
The AKR team demonstrated an exceptional level of self-awareness, honesty and openness throughout the Spotlight process. Being identified as "empathically engaged" is a powerful strength - connection, care and genuine support come naturally to this team.
What truly elevates AKR, however, is their willingness to translate that awareness into action. By intentionally aligning their natural empathy with performance standards, consistency and shared expectations, they are building something special. Their growing understanding of Mindset and Behaviour strengths is deepening the quality of human connection — both with members and with each other. And that's the shift that moves a team from good... to exceptional."
AKR Fitness supports more than 200 members in Aberdeen through structured personal training and coaching. The business continues to invest in leadership development and systems that elevate both team performance and member experience.
