As part of its ongoing investment in professional development, AKR Fitness recently hosted a communication workshop for its coaching team, led by voice expert Cath Baxter — one of the UK’s leading voice coaches and former head of voice at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts.
The session focused on how coaches can use their voice more effectively on the gym floor — from clarity and tone to pace, volume, and presence. The aim: to ensure that every member at AKR feels guided, understood, and energised during their session.
“At AKR, we coach real people — not just exercises,” said Mike MacDonald, founder of AKR Fitness. “Strong communication helps us build trust, motivate effectively, and deliver a consistently high-quality experience to our members.”
After working with the team, Cath said: “Working with the team at AKR Fitness was a real pleasure. Their enthusiasm, curiosity, and care for one another — and for their clients — was evident in everything they did. They bring clarity, precision, and genuine warmth to their communication, creating a truly exceptional coaching environment. Alas, I live in London — otherwise I’d be signing up tomorrow!”
The workshop is part of AKR’s commitment to continuous development — ensuring its team continues to grow, communicate effectively, and deliver an experience that reflects the gym’s values of Kindness, Energy, and Excellence.
