An Albyn School S6 leaver, Kirsty Brechin, is celebrating outstanding Qualifications Scotland exam results after achieving three A grades and securing her place to study Scots Law LLB at the University of Glasgow.
Kirsty, who joined Albyn in S1 in 2020 and later went on to become School Captain in 2025-26, achieved A grades in Advanced Higher Modern Studies, Advanced Higher Maths and Higher Physical Education, building on the five A grades she achieved in her Highers last year.
The results mean Kirsty has met the conditions of her university offer and will begin studying Scots Law in Glasgow next month.
Speaking on Results Day, Kirsty said: "I was feeling anxious because I needed a B in Modern Studies to get into university. I felt confident I could achieve it, but you never really know when you're sitting the exam, so I was really relieved when I opened my results. It means I can officially say I'm off to Glasgow next month."
While delighted with all of her grades, Kirsty says her achievement in Advanced Higher Maths is the one she is most proud of.
"I took it because it was something a bit different from my other subjects, which were both quite writing-heavy. I've always enjoyed maths, but I didn't expect to get an A at all, so that was a huge achievement for me.”
Kirsty credits maintaining a healthy balance between revision and spending time with friends as one of the keys to her success.
"I would revise at the library with my friends and afterwards we'd maybe go for lunch or an ice cream as a little reward. I made sure I still had plans outside studying because revising all the time can become quite overwhelming."
Throughout her time at Albyn, Kirsty has spoken openly about overcoming personal challenges, including the loss of a parent. Her determination and resilience have been matched by a strong work ethic and positive outlook, culminating in an exceptional set of exam results and a place on her chosen degree course.
Lynda Strachan, Deputy Head of Learning and Teaching at Albyn School, said: "Kirsty's achievements are thoroughly deserved and reflect the dedication, resilience and determination she has shown throughout her time at Albyn. She has approached every challenge with maturity, positivity and an unwavering commitment to doing her very best. We are incredibly proud of everything Kirsty has accomplished, both inside and outside the classroom. She has been a wonderful role model for younger pupils, and we wish her every success as she begins this exciting new chapter at the University of Glasgow."
Kirsty will celebrate her results with her dad, brother and friends before starting university next month.
