Albyn School marked the beginning of its Queen’s Road 100 celebrations in style this past weekend, with a packed programme of events that brought together pupils, staff, former pupils, families and friends of the school.
The festivities began on Friday with Founders Day, a special occasion for current pupils and staff to reflect on Albyn’s rich history. Assemblies were held to acknowledge the schools’ heritage, and celebrations were complete with a cake-cutting to mark the milestone. Later that evening, a fully-booked drinks reception for former pupils at nearby Malmaison Hotel offered a lively opportunity to reminisce, reconnect, and share fond memories of school days.
On Saturday, over 100 former pupils were welcomed back through the school doors for a reunion, where they enjoyed the chance to wander the corridors with current pupils, revisit old classrooms and catch up with friends and staff over afternoon tea.
The weekend culminated in a buzzing Family Fun Day on Sunday, which drew hundreds of visitors from across the Albyn community. The grounds of Queen’s Road were filled with laughter as families enjoyed a silent disco, bouncy castles, face painting, magic shows, outdoor games, street food and much more, all against the backdrop of glorious autumn sunshine.
Head of School, David Starbuck, said: “It was the perfect start to our Queen’s Road centenary celebrations. To see our alumni return in such numbers, our pupils learning about our history and our community coming together to celebrate in the sunshine was truly special.”
The Queen’s Road 100 programme will continue throughout the academic year, with further highlights including a Civic Reception in November, a ceilidh in January and a special performance at Aberdeen’s Tivoli Theatre in March. More details on these events will be shared in due course.
