Ambitious half a million fundraising target set for Sportschallenge

Sportschallenge, the North-east’s premier sports-themed fundraising dinner, has set an ambitious combined fundraising target of £500,000 for 2018.

Now in its sixth year, Sportschallenge has so far raised £420,000 for local causes, and this year it is aiming to raise an additional £80,000 to benefit more charities, whilst entertaining hundreds of guests and competitors.

Sportschallenge 2018 will return to the AECC on Thursday 13 September, and will see teams from businesses across the region compete in the ‘Question of Sport’-style quiz evening. Funds raised from the event go directly to beneficiaries Maggie’s and Children’s Aid (Scotland). A third additional charity that will also receive thousands in financial aid is yet to be announced.

The event, sponsored by Simmons and Co., and supported by CNR and Carbon Financial, is a highlight of the regional social calendar with previous events hosted by well-known sporting personalities, such as TV presenter Jim White and former professional footballers Charlie Nicholas and Alan McInally.

Nick Dalgarno, managing director of Simmons and Co., said: “Sportschallenge has cemented itself as a cornerstone of the North-east social calendar and 2018 will see us go further than before, with the target to raise £80,000 for very deserving causes which resonate personally with many of us.

“Sportschallenge is about making a tangible difference to the charities that work tirelessly in our community. These services are finding it increasingly challenging to secure new avenues of funding, so events like Sportschallenge provide a real lifeline whilst giving competitors a fun and enjoyable night-out that is unlike anything else on offer in the North-east.

“We are looking forwarding to returning to AECC, with its bigger capacity. Guests can still expect the usual format and as always, we will be bucking the trend with no auction or raffle. Sportschallenge really is all about the competition.”

Fundraising manager for Maggie’s, Paula Cormack, added: “We simply could not offer the support that we do at Maggie’s without the generosity of the local community and events like Sportschallenge play a key role in this.”
