Following a comprehensive recruitment process, VSA has appointed Alex Busch as its new Chief Executive Officer. Alex will take up the role in August.
Alex brings more than 20 years of leadership and frontline experience across the social care and education sectors. Most recently, he served as Executive Director of Camphill School Aberdeen, where he worked for over two decades across residential care, education, social enterprise and organisational leadership.
During his time at Camphill, Alex led a significant period of change and modernisation, strengthening governance and ensuring long‑term sustainability while maintaining a strong commitment to values‑led, person‑centred support. He also guided the organisation through the challenges of the Covid‑19 pandemic and oversaw major service and capital developments, including new residential provision and community‑facing social enterprises.
Alex’s background combines hands‑on care experience with strong strategic, governance and organisational leadership, and he brings a deep commitment to improving outcomes for people who rely on high‑quality care and support.
Commenting on his appointment, Alex said: “I am absolutely thrilled to join VSA. I know it has been a period of change at the charity, and I am excited to support colleagues to deliver the best possible outcomes for the people VSA supports. It is a fantastic organisation with an amazing heritage, and I can’t wait to get started and work with partners and colleagues to deliver the very best care, education and wellbeing across our wonderful services.”
The Board of Trustees is confident that Alex’s experience, values and leadership style align strongly with VSA’s mission and strategic priorities. This appointment marks a positive step as VSA continues to strengthen its services, partnerships and impact across the communities it serves.
