Investment is an important indicator of future economic growth — but the latest QES suggests businesses remain cautious.

In Q2, more than a third of North-east businesses reported reducing capital investment, while only 13% increased it. Staff training showed a similar picture, with just 11% expecting to increase training investment and almost one-third planning to reduce it.

As businesses move through the second half of 2026, has that outlook changed?

The Q3 Quarterly Economic Survey is your opportunity to tell us what is happening in your business — whether you are investing, holding back or looking for new opportunities.

Delivered in partnership with Gilson Gray LLP, the QES provides evidence that helps AGCC represent the interests of North-east businesses.
