Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group is deeply concerned by the news that Petrofac has entered administration proceedings for its holding company.
The firm, which employs around 2,000 people in Scotland and thousands more globally, has confirmed that its North Sea operations will continue to trade as normal while restructuring options are explored.
Operating in Aberdeen since 2002, Petrofac has been a highly respected employer and trusted partner in the energy industry, delivering engineering, project management, and operations support across oil, gas, and renewable energy. The company’s skilled workforce has long played an important role in sustaining the North-east’s energy economy and advancing its technical and operational excellence.

Jean Morrison, chair of AREG, said: “Petrofac is a good company that employs many local people and thousands more internationally. This news is deeply concerning, not only for the employees, but for the wider supply chain, which continues to face intense pressure during the energy transition. Petrofac has made a significant contribution to the sector, and we hope efforts to protect jobs and secure its operations prove successful.”
AREG continues to call for greater stability and investment in the energy supply chain, stressing that maintaining industrial capability and protecting skilled employment are vital to ensuring a just and managed transition for the region’s workforce and the UK’s broader energy future.
