Young visitors are being encouraged to sing, wiggle, laugh and make some noise at the Art Gallery during a special Day of Play on Wednesday 10 September.
The team at the Gallery is inviting its youngest visitors to build, balance, create, play and be curious together with their grown-ups in a mixture of free and paid-for hands-on activities for children aged 2-5 years. Old clothes are in order as there’s a high chance of messiness!
Expect plenty of painting, tinkering, drawing, cutting, spraying and collaging in a free, drop-in Process Art session (10:30-12:00). No need to book.
Get ready to sing some favourite nursery rhymes and enjoy story time with Bookbug from Aberdeen City Libraries (11:30-12:00). This is a free session but booking is required at aagm.co.uk
Young visitors enjoying a playful Musical Bus session in the Art Gallery
Youngsters are invited to sing, wiggle and laugh their way round the Gallery on a special musical tour with Music Bus Aberdeen (13:00-13:45). Tickets cost £8 per child – book at aagm.co.uk
The Loose Parts Play session (14:00-15:30) provides a free, drop-in space for children and their grown-ups to explore a world of creative play using tubes and pipes, big boxes, crates, reels, tyres, and lots more – no structure, no rules, just curiosity-led fun. No need to book.
Councillor Martin Greig, Aberdeen City Council’s culture spokesperson, said: “With older children back at school, the Day of Play is a fantastic opportunity for young ones and their parents or carers to spend time at the Gallery and get curious together, enjoying stories, music and creative play. This is an excellent opportunity to visit and enjoy our wonderful Art Gallery."
