Leading travel management company ATPI is celebrating a double success, with two of its outstanding team members shortlisted for individual honours at the prestigious Scottish Passenger Agents’ Association (SPAA) Sparkle Awards 2025.

Mel Thomson, global partnership manager, has been shortlisted for Corporate Account Manager of the Year, while Karen Donald, senior business travel consultant, is a finalist in the category of Team Player of the Year. Both Mel and Karen are based at ATPI’s Scottish headquarters in Aberdeen, one of four UK offices operated by the globally recognised travel management company.

Mel Thomson’s nomination recognises her exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and ability to deliver tangible commercial results. From spearheading a complex global implementation for a major client to championing ATPI’s sustainability offering, Mel continually drives excellence for both clients and internal teams. Her work goes far beyond day-to-day responsibilities, in enhancing the client experience, mentoring colleagues, and representing ATPI at industry events with passion and integrity.

Karen Donald’s nomination honours her combination of operational excellence and genuine care for people. Over her 18-year tenure with the company, Karen has become a trusted mentor, a go-to expert in internal systems, and a key figure in onboarding major accounts. Her contributions consistently streamline internal processes, while her involvement in company events and charity initiatives reflects her deep commitment to team culture and community. Karen’s enthusiasm, dependability, and people-first mindset have earned her six Employee of the Month nominations.

Hosted annually by the SPAA, the trade association representing Scotland’s major travel agents, the Sparkle Awards celebrate the achievements of frontline travel professionals across the country. The winners will be announced during an awards ceremony on Friday 5th September 2025, held at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow.
