Zenith Energy Australia, part of the Zenith Energy Group with headquarters in Aberdeen, Scotland, has been awarded a contract by the Australian Government to act as lead contractor for phase 2 of the Northern Endeavour decommissioning program, one of the most significant offshore decommissioning programmes currently underway in the Asia-Pacific region.
Awarded following a competitive international tender process, the contract appoints Zenith Energy to lead the project management, engineering and delivery of phase 2, which centres on the permanent plugging and abandonment (P&A) of nine subsea wells within the Laminaria-Corallina oilfields in the Timor Sea. The appointment reinforces Zenith's position as a leading independent provider of well management, well engineering and decommissioning services, with a proven track record of delivering technically complex offshore projects worldwide.
The Northern Endeavour decommissioning program was established to safely and responsibly decommission the former Northern Endeavour offshore production facilities and associated subsea infrastructure. Phase 2 represents a critical stage of the programme, focusing on the permanent plugging and abandonment of the nine Laminaria-Corallina wells to ensure their long-term integrity, while supporting the safe and environmentally responsible retirement of offshore oil and gas infrastructure.
As lead contractor, Zenith Energy will be responsible for delivering full project management and engineering services required to design, plan and, subject to Commonwealth approval, execute the plug and abandonment campaign. The contract scope includes project management, detailed well engineering, development of execution plans, regulatory approvals and acceptances, management of the offshore plug and abandonment campaign, storage and transportation of recovered infrastructure and materials, and field monitoring activities through to handover for phase 3 of the Northern Endeavour decommissioning program.
The award reflects Zenith Energy's extensive international experience in well management and offshore decommissioning, having successfully delivered technically demanding projects across the United Kingdom, Australia, Africa and the Middle East. Through its integrated delivery model, Zenith combines project management, engineering expertise and operational leadership to provide clients with a single accountable partner for complex well lifecycle and decommissioning programmes. The appointment further strengthens Zenith's international presence and reputation as an independent well management specialist, supporting clients in delivering safe, efficient and environmentally responsible outcomes throughout the well lifecycle.
As one of the largest offshore decommissioning programmes currently underway in Asia-Pacific, the Northern Endeavour decommissioning program is expected to establish important benchmarks for the planning, execution and delivery of future offshore decommissioning projects in the region. As offshore decommissioning activity continues to accelerate globally, Zenith Energy is proud to contribute its expertise to a programme that will play an important role in shaping best practice for the responsible retirement of offshore infrastructure across the region and beyond.
