An Aberdeen-based accountancy and business advisory team has promoted one of its directors to Partner in a move designed to support strategic growth plans.

Matthew Allan, Audit Director at Azets’ office in the city since 2022 and an experienced accountant of more than 16 years’ standing, steps up with ambitions to build the firm’s profile across the North East of Scotland.

The former Robert Gordon’s College pupil and University of Aberdeen graduate joined Azets in June 2021 as an associate director, having spent 11 years in an audit role at another firm.

Two years ago he became a registered auditor, able to sign audit reports as a responsible individual (RI), an official status recognised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS).

He also has extensive experience in both the UK GAAP and IFRS technical reporting standards for compiling and presenting financial statements.

As Audit Partner at Azets, Matthew is responsible for delivering audit, assurance and financial reporting services to a portfolio of clients from owner-managed businesses to multi-nationals.

His sector expertise spans energy and marine services, the food and drink industry, manufacturing and construction, with clients based both in the UK and overseas.

Among his other specialisms is the provision of grant claim assurance reports and independent audit examinations for charities.

On his promotion to Partner, Matthew said: “My new role gives me even bigger scope to help build the profile of Azets in the North East of Scotland. Success is always about delivering real value to our clients by applying our skills and expertise and I’m grateful for the enhanced opportunity to do just that.

“I aim to continue to provide clients with the peace of mind of knowing they are operating in the most efficient and profitable way possible while ensuring they are compliant with the relevant laws and regulations.”

Matthew’s promotion comes just weeks after Azets’ Aberdeen office strengthened its senior leadership team with its first external Partner hire.

Brian McMurray, previously Finance Director at global procurement company ESWL, now sits in the firm’s 35-strong Aberdeen ABAS (Accountancy and Business Advisory Services) team.

David Booth, Regional Managing Partner for Azets in Aberdeen, said: "Together with Brian's recent appointment, Matthew's promotion to Audit Partner further strengthens our senior team as we continue to invest in the North East and support our clients' ambitions.

“Matthew's promotion is a well-deserved recognition of the significant contribution he has made to our clients and our business since joining Azets. His technical expertise, commercial approach and commitment to delivering high-quality service have made him a valued member of our audit team.

“His appointment comes at the end of another exceptionally strong financial year for our Aberdeen office, reflecting the continued growth of our business, the strength of our client relationships and the dedication of our people.”

Azets’ Aberdeen office advises a diverse client base, including SMEs, corporates and private individuals, offering services across Audit & Assurance, Tax Advisory, Payroll, Corporate Finance, R&D Tax Credits and Private Client Services.

Since 2018, the Aberdeen team has grown from five to more than 70 professionals and continues to expand in response to increasing client demand.
