Aberdeen’s Balmoral Group is preparing to invest more than £50 million after adopting a new family investment office model following the sale of Balmoral Comtec.

The group plans to deploy the funds across property, listed investments and direct private equity investments, with a focus on backing ambitious small and medium-sized businesses and building a more diversified portfolio.

In an exclusive interview with the Press & Journal this morning, Kevin Binnie, Balmoral Group corporate director, said: “The end objective for the investment office is to invest to make social impact.”

While the strategy includes expanding into new sectors to create a more balanced portfolio, Mr Binnie said Balmoral Group remained “keen to invest in oil and gas businesses” alongside opportunities in other industries.

The group said Aberdeen and the north-east would remain central to its plans.
