10 Dollar Shake, currently celebrating the 10th anniversary of their flagship cocktail bar, The Tippling House, have purchased the licensed premises at 53 Langstane Place from Bowden Developments for an undisclosed sum.

Formerly Yatai Izakaya Japanese restaurant, the property on the busy night-life strip of Langstane Place has been empty most of the summer, since the temporary lease of another Japanese restaurant, (Masaki) expired. Discussions initially centred around taking on a lease for the vacant first floor, when Masaki were operating their restaurant downstairs, but quickly turned to purchase negotiations, once the building’s owner, Bowden Developments, expressed an interest in selling the property.

10 Dollar Shake, founded 12 years ago by Adrian Gomes, has diversified over the years to provide catering and event support services across a number of sectors, including weddings, corporate entertainment, whisky distilleries and consultancy for the hospitality and drinks industry. The business also provides wine and spirit tastings in addition to in-house bar services for events at a number of exclusive-use venues such as Fasque House, Candacraig and the Glen Tanar Ballroom. The company has operated their subterranean cocktail bar The Tippling House on Belmont Street for over a decade and has had an operational partnership with The Steading Bar in Strathdon, Aberdeenshire since 2019.

Adrian Gomes, founder of 10 Dollar Shake, says “We’ve been looking for the right opportunity to grow the business in the right location. The vacant property at 53 Langstane Place was somewhere we briefly looked at before Yatai Izakaya took on the lease so I’m delighted to finally secure the building. At the moment, we’re fine-tuning the new concept but as always we’re committed to enhancing, and progressing, the food and drink scene in Aberdeen.”

The sale was concluded with the assistance of solicitor Richard Shepherd of Gilson Gray LLP and the commercial and surveying team at FG Burnett.
