As the festive season draws near, Befriend a Child, the Aberdeen-based charity, is announcing a final call on organisations to step up as sponsor for The Giving Tree Appeal 2025 before the deadline closes on Monday 15th September.
Befriend a Child supports around 250 children and young people across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire through one-to-one and group befriending, mentoring and family support services. Many of the children they work with are living in poverty, experiencing neglect or facing social isolation, and the charity’s mission is to help them build resilience, confidence and brighter futures through positive relationships with trained adult volunteers.
The Giving Tree Appeal is Befriend a Child’s annual festive campaign aimed at ensuring that children living in difficult life circumstances receive gifts to open on Christmas morning and experiences to enjoy in the year ahead. Supporters display Giving Tree tags, personalised by age and gender, on their Christmas trees for staff, clients and visitors to take, buy a gift and return with the tag attached. There are also virtual options, such as donating towards experiences or contributing via an Amazon wish list, so everyone has the chance to take part.
In 2024 the appeal was a record-breaking success, with over 3,000 gifts collected and around £16,000 raised to provide experiences for children and their volunteers in 2025. More than 120 local businesses joined the campaign in 2023/24 as Giving Tree Partners, helping to spread festive joy and support the children and young people who need it most during the winter period.
Sponsoring the Giving Tree Appeal 2025 offers organisations a chance to make a real difference while gaining valuable recognition. The sponsor will benefit from full promotion on every Giving Tree tag distributed throughout Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, ensuring high visibility across workplaces, retail spaces and community venues. In addition, sponsorship includes relevant promotion across Befriend a Child’s social media channels and press coverage mentions before and after the campaign, showcasing your organisation’s commitment to local children at Christmas and beyond.
