Aberdeen charity Befriend a Child is celebrating after being named Large Organisation of the Year at the 2026 Celebrate Aberdeen Awards.

The Celebrate Aberdeen Awards recognise the people, organisations and businesses making a positive contribution to the North-East, celebrating the commitment and impact of the region's third sector and wider community.

The charity received the prestigious accolade at the awards ceremony on Saturday 31st October at the Chester Hotel, joining a host of inspiring individuals, businesses and organisations recognised for their contributions to the local community.

The award celebrates Befriend a Child’s ongoing commitment to supporting children and young people across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire who are facing challenging circumstances, helping them build confidence, develop resilience and create positive memories through trusted relationships and meaningful experiences.

The recognition is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the charity’s staff, volunteers, trustees, supporters and partners, who work together to make a lasting difference to the lives of local children and families.

Sarah Misra, CEO of Befriend a Child, said: "We are absolutely delighted to have received this recognition. It was a fantastic evening celebrating the incredible work taking place across Aberdeen, and we're honoured to have been recognised alongside so many inspiring organisations and individuals.

This award is a testament to the dedication and commitment of everyone who makes Befriend a Child what it is, from our staff and volunteers to our trustees, supporters and partners. We are incredibly grateful for everything they do and proud of the difference we continue to make together.”

Established in 1975, Befriend a Child makes a difference to over 250 children and young people a year across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. Through befriending, mentoring, family support and group activities, the charity works to ensure children experiencing challenging circumstances have access to the trusted relationships, opportunities and experiences they need to thrive.

Befriend a Child would also like to congratulate all the other finalists and winners recognised at this year's awards. The evening provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate alongside so many fantastic individuals and organisations making a positive difference across Aberdeen, while highlighting the incredible work taking place throughout local communities.
