Befriend a Child, an Aberdeen-based charity, is proud to announce it has once again achieved the prestigious Quality in Befriending Excellence Award following reaccreditation from Befriending Networks in June 2025.

This reaccreditation marks the continuation of Befriend a Child’s exceptional standards in delivering 1:1 befriending support to children and young people facing tough life circumstances. Befriend a Child has held the Quality in Befriending accreditation since 2013, and first achieved the Excellence tier in 2022.

Sarah Misra, CEO of Befriend a Child, said: “I couldn’t be prouder of our team for earning this recognition. As we celebrate 50 years of Befriend a Child, this award is a true testament to the dedication of our staff and volunteers. We hope it inspires more volunteer befrienders to join our programme and help transform young lives for years to come.”

The team celebrates this coveted award as an indication to their ongoing excellence in supporting disadvantaged young people and fostering genuine connections in which children and young people can reach their full potential. Befriend a Child remains committed to best-in-class service delivery and to continually evolving its practices to meet the needs of the children and families it serves.

Covering all areas of Befriend a Child’s befriending programme, this award highlights the exceptional quality in service delivery, staff management, evaluating impact and the journey of both the young people supported and volunteers.

Jean Gordon, Head of Operations at Befriend a Child, said: “Gaining the Quality in Befriending Excellence Award highlights that the delivery and impact of our befriending programme is of the highest standard, not only for our volunteers but also for our referral partners and funders”.
