Two North-east women have raised more than £4,000 for North East Sensory Services (NESS) after taking on the challenge of climbing Ben Nevis.

Emma Welsh, community partnerships coordinator at NESS, completed the climb of the UK’s highest mountain on 9 May alongside her friend Carolynne Mellough, head of operations at Aberdeen based information technology and telecommunication services company Converged Solutions Group.

The £4,030 raised will help NESS continue to provide vital support and services for children, young people and adults who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind or partially sighted across the north-east of Scotland.

Emma decided to tackle the climb as NESS has helped her visually-impaired son, so she wanted to give back and help other families to access similar support and opportunities.

Emma Welsh, community partnerships coordinator at NESS said: “What many of us take for granted can be someone else’s daily challenge. Taking on Ben Nevis felt small in comparison, and knowing these funds will help other people access support through NESS means every step was worth it.

“The kindness and encouragement we received throughout the fundraiser reminded us of the real power of community.”
