Business Women Connections (Aberdeen) is bringing together a powerful panel of speakers for a thought-provoking discussion exploring the intersection of workplace culture, male mental health and parenting, and how supporting families at every level, from home to the boardroom, can help create a more equitable, resilient and emotionally intelligent society.
The event will take place on Tuesday 30th September at the Aberdeen Altens Hotel, running from 8.30am to 12.30pm. Open to both men and women, this session welcomes employers, leaders and parents to join a conversation that cuts to the heart of modern societal challenges.
Three leading voices in advocacy and wellbeing will share their insights:
Brooke Jarvis
- Brooke Jarvis, United Nations Programme Manager, UK Policing / Director of HeForShe, will open the session with “Culture Starts at Work: Inclusion, Parenting Support & Societal Impact”, highlighting how workplace culture influences broader society, the benefits of inclusive and family-friendly policies and the importance of supporting employees in their parenting roles.
Mike Scotland
- Mike Scotland, Mental Health Advocate and Founder of manUP speakUP, will address “Silent Struggles: The Urgent Case for Supporting Boys’ Mental Health”, shedding light on emotional suppression, societal expectations and the critical need to break the stigma surrounding boys’ and men’s mental health.
Oyin Adekola
- Oyin Adekola, Parenting and Youth Coach at KIRO, will close the panel with “Parenting on Purpose: Why Leaving It to Chance Is a Risk We Can’t Afford”, examining the influence of schools, communities and workplaces on young people, and offering practical advice on how to parent intentionally in today’s fast-paced world.
Karen Smith, BWC Aberdeen franchise owner, commented: “I have wanted to bring this conversation to the table for a while now and so happy to welcome Brooke, Mike and Oyin to take time out, hit the pause button and discuss how we can all support male mental health during our fast paced, chaotic and sometimes confusing world.
This event is open to everyone, employers, parents, men and women, who recognise the impact of society, male mental health and how we as a community can support each other both inside and outside the home to build a stronger more equitable and emotionally intelligent society.”
