Brewdog has announced job cuts across its business after posting a £37 million loss, its fifth consecutive year in the red.
The Ellon-based brewer’s pre-tax losses now total £148 million over the five-year period.
The company has not confirmed how many roles will go, but staff were informed of the decision by chief executive James Taylor in an internal email. It follows the closure of 10 UK bars earlier this year.
Mr Taylor told employees a difficult decision had been made to “right-size” parts of the business.
He said: “We've taken time to review our structure and ensure we're focusing our energy and investment in the right areas. These changes have affected a number of roles across several departments.”
He added: “We don't take these decisions lightly, but we are confident that the steps we're taking now will help us operate more simply, stay focused, and drive the business forward.”
The trade union Unite said roles could be lost at the firm’s Ellon brewery and described the move as a “deeply worrying sign for the company's future.”
The job cuts come days after Brewdog sold its Kinrara rewilding estate, near Aviemore, to Oxygen Conservation. The site was purchased in 2020 for £8.8million and had been earmarked for a major woodland and peatland restoration project, but critics said the ambitious “Lost Forest” plan failed to take root.
